My favorite contour palette, by Sephora

contour-tan_skin-sephora_palette-

Although the design of this product is annoying and the highlight shades are useless this is by far the best contour product I have ever used.

The deep tan shade on the left is smooth and warm in color. It works as a bronzer on me.

For contour I use the cooler tone on the right hand side. This is what I use down the sides of my nose and as a sharp contrast under my cheek bones. If I feel the color is too grey I warm up my face with the bronzer.

The really dark color at the bottom is what I use for under my jawline. I don’t use this anywhere else it’s just way to dark. A little goes a long way with this shade. Tread lightly if you are med to tan. BTW for reference I am a deep tan, MAC NC 42.

Now back to those highlight shades. They are useless. They are super chalky, not smooth, and not pigmented. They get in the way of the contour shades but I work around them.

Sephora has marked this on sale, it looks as though it is now a discontinued product. I’ve stalked up on this palette. Sad to see it go but I hope it gets redesigned for us darker skin girls.

Dark Circle Under Eye Color Corrector for Tan/Deep Skin

Hey! If you suffer from dark circles like me I have some great items for you. These will color correct the purple/blue discoloration under your eyes, any scars and darkness around your mouth. After you color correct you can always add a brightener under the eyes for a dramatic finish. These holy grail items have never let me down.

*(click product images for purchase)

My favorite is the Nars Creamy Radiant Concealer in Biscuit. This has a salmon/pink undertone that works well to color correct dark circles. Bonus- if you are a deep tan skin tone this will also blend well into the other parts of the face to hide scars and discoloration. The finish is natural and does not need to be set with a powder.

The L.A. Girl PRO Concealer is more dramatic option and best for ladies with a deep dark skin tone. The red/orange shade can counteract the darkest circles. You will need to use another concealer on top though. I would recommend an actual skin tone concealer and not just a brightener. You will need to hide the red/orange.

Last but not least I use this Bobbi Brown concealer that has a pink undertone alone. The shade matches my skin tone while the undertone counteracts dark circles. I can use this alone when I feel like using minimal product but with strong coverage. It is a bit creamy and thick so you will need to warm the product up before application. Just rub a bit in between your fingers and pat on. You will need to set this with a powder as it does crease.

For reference I am an NC 42 in Mac, Syracuse in Nars Foundations, and Golden Beige in Cover Girl.

Sation Nail Laquer: Love at First Bite

I can’t stop staring at this creamy peach laquer. My boyfriend even likes it. It took 3 coats to reach this barely opaque color.

Product Review: L’Oreal Magic Nude Liquid Powder Foundation with SPF 18

L'Oreal Magic Nude Liquid Powered Foundation with SPF 18

L’Oreal Magic Nude Liquid Powered Foundation with SPF 18

This foundation claims to turn from a liquid from to powder after application. Well, I tried it and I can say that it does. I found this foundation at a CVS near my home. Not all locations have this yet though. I visited 3 locations and only one had the foundation. I picked up 328 in Sun Beige. The color is a little light for me but the next color up was too dark. This is the number one reason I don’t love drugstore foundations, the color range is typically off for me.

At first I hated this product. It felt slimy, it was dripping off my palms, and it stuck to my dry spots. The next day I gave it a second chance and it was much better. I used far less product the second time around and I exfoliated before application. I was able to achieve medium coverage and my face looked matte. It didn’t cover my acne scars but in all honestly not very much does. I’m realistic.

This foundation starts off as a very liquid formula so use very little when applying or it can get all over the place. I would suggest putting your finger at the opening of the bottle and shake. Apply to your face whatever you get on your finger. The finish is a matte so you do not need a powder to set it in. It can give you a sheer to medium coverage. The formula is almost waterproof even through it is not marketed that way so oily skins will love it. This feels like you are applying primer or serum to the skin so it really blends well.

It does last longer than the average foundation but reapplying a little during the day couldn’t hurt you. Plus you don’t even need to carry a powder. If you have major hyperpigmentation, acne scars and dry spots this is not the best option for you. The coverage won’t really get up that high without looking a little cake like. Yes it can get cake like so don’t use too much.

Here are some pictures of how it looks when you pour it onto your palm and after running water over it.

Here is a before and after on me. I used two layers. As you can see it diffuses the look of my pores and evens my skin tone. It did an ok job hiding scars and redness. Not enough for me though.

Overall I would recommend this product but it’s just not a repurchase for me. It doesn’t stack up to my holy grail Nars Sheer Glow. Here is a link to that review: http://wp.me/p39Icy-C

June 2013 IPSY Glam Bag

glamjune

So glad my IPSY arrives at work. It’s just something that brightens my dull day of marketing. Not really, I like my job. So neon is out right? Well, I don’t care. A neon zipper across a leopard pouch is the perfect punch of tacky for me. I like it. I like the material too. It’s a tough canvas so I can imagine that it will be easy to clean.

glamlinerjune

As for the contents of the bag I was utterly impressed. I got a purple gel liner by a brand called Cailyn and it came in a super cute package. I tried the liner on the back of my hand and it wouldn’t move. I tried soap and water but there are still remnants of the liner on me. That’s a win for me since my lids are oily. WIN-NING!!!!

blush

The mosaic powder (blush) by NYX looks very pretty on the back on my hand but also a little light in color. I’m not sure how this will show up on my very tan skin. By the way the cap broke off right away. Sucks, I won’t be able to store it easily or travel with it. I’m not surprised or upset though. I don’t expect much from a cheaper cosmetic line. You get what you pay for right?

liner

liner

The lip liner I am super stoked about since I don’t own anything of this shade. It’s called “Tickle Me Pink” by Star Looks. The color is very pigmented, goes on smooth, and leaves the perfect stain. I love stains.

glitter

I don’t think I’ve ever worn glitter on my eyes. No, seriously. It just seems like such a mess to deal with plus I don’t want to look like a fairy. This pallet is super cute and the colors are gorgeous but I won’t be using it. Not trying to make anyone else feel bad about glitter but I think my time is up. I’m too old for it. Some lovely person will receive this as a gift.

psst

My oily hair appreciates dry shampoo but not all are created equal. I’ve heard amazing things about the PSST dry shampoo but have yet to try it out…until now.

Fashion Blog: Haul Featuring Yumi Kim & Seychelles

Over the last few years I’ve collected a several Yumi Kim blouses. I must say the exquisite color pallets and prints on soft silk is what got me. I discovered her line in People magazine. Loren Conrad was wearing an Aztec print blouse and I was on the hunt. I couldn’t find the blouse she was wearing but I did come across some great pieces that I just needed to have in my wardrobe. I try to purchase a blouse from her line at least once a season. It’s a habit, a brand habit.

I came across these more basic blouses but I can totally see myself wearing them for years. I can dress them up or down, accessorize etc..I love the bright blue and basic ivory of the Lizzie Top, $139

I’ve had my eye on these shoes for a while now. The price was a bit high for me so I waited a few months and purchased them when I saw a reduction. They were originally $90 but I got them for $69 from 6pm.com

What really caught my attention was the leopard print in the back and the suede front that is slightly reminiscent of the Alexander Wang Lovisa Pump. These shoes are chic and affordable, SCORE! Do you have any recent fashion favorites to share?

Work OOTD (Outfit of the day) 06.07.13

Leopard flats, black skinnies and a cardi sum it up for me. Our dress code is business casual but when you work in the Bay Area that just means casual. My version of dress up means I’ll wear a blouse with a cardigan on top. Jeans are a must.
